‘VideoPodcast’ is a pretty misunderstood term, the names ‘Netcast’ or ‘Vlogcast’ have tried to clear or muddy the waters in that area, but really what we’re talking about is video content produced regularly and distributed over the internet. TV on the Web is a good way of looking at it. I’ve been making Broadcast-quality VideoPodcasts since 2005 – before any of these confusing terms were actually coined. In that time I’ve learned what it takes to not only make a technically glorious Podcast happen, but to get people watching it.
Some of these are personal projects I created that picked up a significant enough audience and turned enough profit to keep making for the fans and the community. Others are shows I helped pioneer and still direct specifically for websites like FoodNetwork.ca or theWHIR.com. Either way, the goal is the same: a webshow that is every bit as high in quality as what you’d see on TV.
And often it’s better.
Made specifically for FoodNetwork.ca, Grape Notes brings the host of the Naked Wine Show to the third most popular website in the country. With wine gadgets, reviews and how-to’s, Sue Sterling takes the stuffy attitude of the wine industry and tells wit where to go with a side of sass and fun.
Your Geek News
Created as a way to put the wealth of video content found on the Electronic Press Kits of newly released movies to better use than the standard 30 second Entertainment Tonight spot, Your Geek News brings the interviews, behind the scenes footage and exclusive clips from movies like Spider-man, Fantastic Four, Transformers and Harry Potter from the movie studios to potential movie goers as immersive, 10-15 minute movie previews.
As a show dedicated to fan-based analysis of the critically acclaimed Sci-Fi Drama “Battlestar Galactica”, the BSGcast serves the Hugo and Saturn Award winner and Time Magazine’s “Best show on Television”, Battlestar Galactica’s fanbase. This is a sophisticated and intelligent group, that matches very well with the dense, topical, and often subject matter of the show. The weekly commentary and discussion found on BSGcast.com compliments the weekly show, and helps bridge the gap from episode to episode for thousands of fans all over the world.
One of the longest running video podcasts on the net and started in 2005 WHIRtv even pre-dates the term podcasting. And rightly so, as the definitive video source for news, interviews and punditry for the industry that represents the very back-bone of the internet: Web Hosts. Made specifically for the industry magazine the WHIR the viewership of this podcast has been huge from day 1.
A site designed for wine newbies and aficionados, SlurpSwish.com features the Naked Wine Show and dishes the tasting notes on every manner of wine, using down to earth language, while bringing the audience in on the meaning of some of the wine worlds more complex terminology.
